The mosquito net donations are an excellent example of how the decisions of effective altruists are rooted in their own happiness rather than others as demonstrated by the use of some of these nets for fishing by starving villagers, see, causing the depletion of fish stocks due to the small mesh size ensaring immature fish and the poisoning of water with insecticide. The villagers happiness of not starving outweighs their happiness of not catching malaria. I’m certain effective altruists can give innumerable statistics and studies of why they are still right in their actions, their egos demand it.
